C48EE3P376 20 x 2.5 Spiral Point (GUN) DIN 376 HSS-Co5 Tap - Goliath HSS-Co Bright Finish Reduced Shank Metric Coarse Spiral Point Machine Tap. HSS-Co Spiral Point Long Series Tap made to DIN 376 standard. Reduced shank taps have a smaller shank diameter than full-diameter taps. Reduced shank taps are designed for through hole applications in materials with high tensile strength. Spiral point taps, also known as "Gun nose taps", have straight flutes supplemented by angular cutting faces at the lead. The design of the cutting portion propels the swarf ahead of the tap leaving the flutes clear for the flow of coolant to the cutting teeth. Primarily designed for use in through holes, these taps can be used in blind holes provided that there is ample clearance beyond the threaded section to accommodate the swarf. The advantages of a gun nose tap are the shearing action of the angular cutting faces, which produces a fine finish on the threads and shallower flutes. This allows a stronger cross section throughout the tap. Metric Coarse angle of thread is 60 degrees. The crest is flat and the thread has clearance at the root allowing external thread and internal thread to engage well. Larger root radius and lower thread height enable easy screw thread processing and increase thread screw strength. The major diameter of external thread and pitch are specified by a simple numerical value (most commonly measured in millimetres). Manufactured from HSS-Co5.
