Scott, Assistant Manager

Scott joined the Edcon Blacktown team in 2019 and brought with him extensive customer service experience and a willingness to go above and beyond for customers.

As a Sales and Customer Service Representative and Assistant Manager for the store, Scott is an integral part of the team, from answering calls and processing orders to helping manage staff and assisting customers.

“I really want every customer to have a great service experience, so if I can’t help them, I’ll make sure I point them in the direction of someone who can,” Scott explains.

“I really love the diverse range of people I get to meet and interact with as part of my job, not just the team but the customers too.

We really care about our customers at Edcon and it’s a great team to be a part of.”

Mark, Sales and Customer Service

With almost 10 years at Edcon Steel, Mark brings extensive knowledge of the company’s products, services and the wider steel industry. His background in fitting, machining and aerospace engineering makes him a valued member of the team.

Mark enjoys building strong relationships with customers, whether over the phone or in person. “Customers like coming to me because we’ve developed a relationship and I’ve helped them out in the past… and they like giving me a hard time for following the Roosters,” he laughs.

For Mark, the camaraderie between staff and customers is one of the best parts of the job. “We have a great team, and we supply to everyone. It doesn’t have to be the big-end companies, but the everyday people who just need something small to finish their projects.”

He also enjoys the constant evolution of the industry. “We’re always getting new products in and really trying to have the best range for our customers,” he says.

“I really love that we are all still learning all the time. And we lean on our teams in other stores a lot, which is so helpful.

Alapatti, Store Person

With more than 10 years with Edcon Steel, Alapatti is a vital part of the Blacktown team. As the most experienced store person, he spends a lot of his time assisting the newer recruits and showing them what to do.

And his enthusiasm is contagious. When asked what he loves most about working for Edcon Steel, Alapatti replied: “Everything!

“Serving the customers, I’m happy. Cutting the steel, I’m happy. Unloading the trucks, I’m happy. It’s a really great job.

I really enjoy being active and Edcon Steel is perfect for that. Every day is different and I get to do lots of different things.”

Brian, Truck Driver

Brian has been a truck driver for Edcon Steel for over 15 years, so he knows his way around the traps.

“Every store has its own drivers, but you can travel Sydney-wide on any day, so there’s a lot of ground to cover,” he says.

Having worked in a number of areas, from fitting and turn, to construction, to signage, he’s found his niche at Edcon Steel. 

“I enjoy the driving job more than any of that. I’ve been doing it for years, and I really like that you get time to yourself – but also having the interaction with customers.

Being outdoors suits me – and that’s one reason why I enjoy working at Edcon. I definitely couldn’t sit inside all day.

“The team at Edcon Steel is easy-going, and that makes it a good place to be. There are good people to work with – and nothing’s a hassle. If there’s a problem, it’s sorted out quickly and easily. It’s an easy-going team and that makes it a good place to be.”
