The Wollongong landscape is transforming – and it’s a dream come true for skaters and scooters across the city. Opening this month, 3SIXTY Indoor Skatepark is a mammoth park that is coming to fruition with an international collaboration… and a large swathe of Edcon steel.
3SIXTY Indoor Skatepark is the latest initiative from local entrepreneurs, Adrian D’Amico and Brett Baker. And it’s designed and built by American Ramp Company (ARC), a Missouri-based enterprise that since 1998 has been creating cutting-edge skate and bike parks, pumptracks and playgrounds across the globe.
Don Wimer, Project Manager with ARC, explains.
“We design and build skateparks and bike parks all over the world, indoor and outdoor. We have parks in every US state and in around 40 countries. Wollongong is our latest – but not our first – project in Australia.”
American Ramp Company began in a Midwest garage in 1998, and it’s now one of the world’s premier skatepark companies. It has a strong focus on providing safe and enjoyable spaces for kids and teens and it aims to prompt people to get off the couch – and on a bike or board.
3SIXTY Indoor Skatepark has been taking shape over the last year, and it will offer dedicated sessions for skaters, scooter and bike riders – and for all ages and abilities. Features will include ramps up to nine feet tall, a double four-foot half pipe, street and stair sections and lots of steel rails.
There will be lessons, demonstrations, corporate team building programs, school activities, children’s birthday parties, school holiday programs and community events. And for parents waiting while their kids skate, it will offer plenty of comfortable seating and a café.
Don approached Edcon Steel while sourcing supplies for the 3SIXTY park. “I did try some other places first but they either didn’t have the full range we were after or they couldn’t size it to our specifications – which surprised me.
I found Edcon Steel over the internet. We needed several items including flat steel, angle steel, pipe and square tubing. And they had it all.”
Based in the US, Don needed a steel supplier that could provide a range of quality materials – and one that was easy to work with, given the distance. “We communicated via email. Edcon was always quick to respond and able to help immediately. It was simple and straightforward from day one.”
Don has worked on projects all over the world, and to keep them running smoothly he needs quality suppliers in each location. Edcon supplies steel solutions for the construction, engineering, marine and rural industries, so it fit the bill.
“They had the full range, fast availability and good pricing – so it was an easy decision.
The contact I dealt with was very helpful, very responsive and very reliable. The process from ordering to payment and delivery was very smooth. It was all really easy, so yes, I would definitely deal with them again.”
The 3SIXTY Indoor Skatepark is the latest in Edcon’s diverse project portfolio that includes everything from residential builds to roads, major construction, monkey sanctuaries and even a royal carriage or two.
Contact Edcon if you need quality steel or metal, exceptional service and to make your project happen.
