Work Smarter with Edcon Steel

Consult the Experts: Always confirm your size and load requirements with a qualified engineer or builder before purchase. Structural steel sections are critical elements, so proper specification is vital for safety.

Order to Size: Prevent on-site delays by having your structural steel sections custom-cut to precise lengths. We offer millimetre-accurate cutting for all structural sections, saving time and waste.

Safe Handling: Steel sections can be heavy. Arrange appropriate lifting equipment or ask our team for loading assistance when picking up from our Brookvale, Revesby, Blacktown, Bathurst, or Orange stores.

Custom Fabrication: Save time on-site by ordering steel sections with base plates, cleats, or pre-drilled holes. Edcon’s fabrication team can prepare your steel to spec, so it’s ready to install; no extra drilling or welding needed on your end.

Stock availability: Edcon Steel stocks a range of structural steel sections at all our NSW branches for quick pickup. If you require a different size, we can source it from our suppliers. Just let us know your specific requirements.

Common Uses and Sectors: Structural Steel Sections

Structural steel sections find use in virtually every construction sector. In residential and commercial buildings throughout Australia, they serve as floor bearers, roof beams, lintels above doors and windows, support columns, and bracing for walls.

Thanks to their high strength and predictable performance, builders use universal beams (UB) and PFC beams to span open areas (like garage openings or large room spaces) and RHS, SHS, and CHS tubing for posts and structural frames. These sections allow for strong, reliable structures. Even DIY projects, like building a pergola or reinforcing a deck, often rely on handy angle iron or channel sections for added strength and stability.

Beyond house and building construction, structural steel sections are critical in civil infrastructure and industrial applications.

Large UB and UC beams form the girders in bridges, railway overpasses and highway structures. In mining and agricultural industries, heavy-duty columns, channels and RHS serve in everything from equipment frames and conveyors to barn sheds and silo supports. Galvanised and stainless sections are especially popular in coastal NSW areas and harsh environments.

From city skyscrapers to country sheds, structural steel sections provide the dependable strength and versatility that Australia’s builders, engineers and fabricators trust every day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you deliver structural steel sections across Sydney and Australia?

Yes, we offer Australia-wide delivery. In Sydney and regional NSW, our own truck fleet services areas around Brookvale, Revesby, Blacktown, Bathurst, and Orange. For areas outside our truck network, we partner with reliable national freight providers to get your order to you safely and efficiently. Because structural steel sections can be long and heavy, freight charges can vary.

Can I pick up my order from a local Edcon store?

Absolutely. Use our free Click & Collect service at any of our five NSW stores – Brookvale, Revesby, Blacktown, Bathurst, and Orange. You’ll be notified when your order is ready.

Will you cut steel sections to size?

Yes – we cut to the exact length you need, down to a minimum of 15 mm. Order custom cuts online or in-store.

Do I need to buy a full-length section?

No. We sell by the metre and can supply short offcuts or custom cut lengths. You only pay for what you need, not full 6 m, 9 m or 12 m stock.

How do I choose the right steel section?

It depends on your project. Beams suit load-bearing spans, while angles and channels work well for bracing. Our team can guide you, but always consult your engineer or builder for structural applications.

What finishes are available?

We offer mill (black), primed, pre-galvanised and hot-dip galvanised finishes. Stainless steel options are also available for marine or corrosive environments.

Are your structural steel sections Australian Standards compliant?

Yes. Our products meet AS/NZS standards, like 3679.1 and 1163. Material test certificates are available on request.
