Welded Mesh Explained

This helpful guide covers some of the basics of welded mesh, to help you choose the right products for your next project.

What is welded mesh?

Welded wire mesh uses welding to bind rows and columns of wire together at each individual intersection.

In this process, the operator draws the wires down to the correct diameter, and then feeds them through a machine that welds the rows together simultaneously.

They then feed the machine again for each intersection of wires. When the machine has welded the required length, it then shears the mesh into a flat and rigid sheet.

You can buy welded mesh online and hassle-free from Edcon Steel, from our stock of the industry-leading Sefar range of welded mesh.

What is welded mesh used for?

Welded mesh is a wonderfully versatile material that is ideal for applications that require a heavy-duty mesh opening. From home garden jobs to large agricultural projects, DIY to construction, welded mesh is a common material for weekend warriors and professionals alike.

The flat surface and high strength of welded mesh enable a firm structure that can provide support or protection to other goods.

Galvanised mesh

Edcon Steel also carries a range of quality Australian-made galvanised mesh sheets. The galvanised coating provides protection from rust in most indoor and outdoor environments. (Please note that it is not suitable in marine or inground situations). We are able to custom-manufacture welded mesh specific to your needs. If you require custom wire spacing or sheet sizes please email your full requirements to [email protected] to receive a quote.

Please note that due to set-up costs, this offer is not economical for small orders and we will need to view your design prior to ensure our machines are capable of manufacturing it.

A variety of aperture sizes and wire diameters are available to suit a huge range of domestic, industrial or agricultural applications, including:

  • Animal enclosures
  • Cages
  • Trailer enclosures
  • Fencing
  • Tree guards
  • Window guards
  • Safety screens
  • Drainage grids
  • Shelves
  • Racks
