At Edcon Steel, we proudly wear Trademutt

If you’ve visited our stores in recent weeks, you may have noticed our team wearing new shirts. These colourful additions to the Edcon uniform are from Trademutt, a brand that blends two important causes: workwear innovation and mental health support.

Lifelong friends Dan and Ed founded Trademutt in the hopes of making a difference in the construction, trade, and labour industries by providing high-quality workwear while championing mental health awareness.

The company’s “Tradie Mental Health” campaign has quickly become a landmark in the Australian construction and trade industries. It helps to destigmatise mental health discussions and encourages workers to seek the support they need. The initiative has received widespread attention, with many industry leaders and organisations, including Edcon Steel, embracing Trademutt’s approach to mental health awareness.

The Origins of Trademutt

As construction industry professionals, Dan and Ed recognised a significant issue that often went unnoticed – the stigma surrounding mental health in their industry. They had witnessed colleagues face a variety of mental health challenges yet often hesitated or avoided seeking help for fear of judgment. Unfortunately, this is not uncommon, as many people who work in high-stress, physically demanding fields such as construction often suffer in silence.

The turning point came when Dan and Ed realised that people in these industries were familiar with physical health, safety gear, and apparel, yet little was being done to tackle mental health. So, they decided to create a brand that would not only provide high-quality workwear but also spark conversations and support for mental health in the workplace.

Workwear with a Purpose

If you come into our Edcon Steel stores, you will see that the Trademutt shirts stand out with bold, vibrant designs. The designs are far from boring; they’re made to catch the eye and provoke thought, helping to break down the stigma surrounding mental health issues in traditionally male-dominated industries like construction.

The message is simple yet impactful: “It’s okay to not be okay.” We are proud to be wearing Trademutt clothes because it reminds our staff (and customers) that their mental health is just as important as their physical safety on the job.

Wearing Trademutt gear signals to others that it’s okay to open up, have a conversation, and seek help when needed.

The Mateship Foundation

Along with other initiatives, Trademutt has also established its own mental health charity, The Mateship Foundation, which provides critical resources for tradespeople and other workers facing mental health challenges. The company uses a percentage of its profits to fund mental health programs and initiatives, including workplace mental health training, peer support programs, and crisis intervention services.

Trademutt’s journey has only just begun. The company’s continued commitment to mental health awareness, along with its innovative and durable workwear, is transforming the landscape of both the mental health and trade industries. As more workers embrace the message of support, understanding, and solidarity, Trademutt is continuing to lead the charge in promoting well-being in high-stress fields.

Through its efforts, Trademutt is proving that fashion can be functional and workwear can carry a message of advocacy. With a growing community of supporters and a firm commitment to changing lives for the better, Trademutt is shaping up to be a legacy brand that will leave a lasting impact on both the workwear and mental health sectors for years to come.
