Jobs in steel

According to the Australian Steel Institute, over 100,000 Australians are employed in the steel industry. As steel production is a cornerstone of our infrastructure, careers in steel are vital to construction, manufacturing and other industry sectors.

If you’re interested in working within the steel industry, read about the jobs on offer at Edcon Steel. We’re always looking for motivated and hard-working individuals to join our expert teams at each of our steel stores.

Boilermakers and welders

Our boilermakers and welders are responsible for fabricating and welding structural steel and general metalwork.

The role involves reading workshop drawings and specifications to meet job requirements, and ensuring the correct material is prepared for the order. Use of hand tools, flame cutting torches, metal cutting and grinding are central to the role.

Our facility is well equipped and laid out for fabrication, with five overhead cranes and a forklift to help with all material handling.

Demonstrated experience in the fabrication and steel industry is essential, a Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade (or overseas equivalents) is an advantage.

Storemen and truck drivers

Storepeople and truck drivers are often the first point of contact for Edcon Steel customers.

If you agree first impressions count and you’re looking for an interesting and rewarding career, we’d love to hear from you.

We appreciate experience in the building industry and are always keen to hear from people with experience in overhead crane, bandsaw and guillotine operation. You will need a forklift licence to work at some of our locations.

If you are interested in becoming an Edcon driver, you will require a heavy vehicle licence (MR, HR or HC). Experience with delivering building products and using a truck mounted crane will be an advantage.

Counter sales

Highly personable, calm and confident individuals will thrive in counter sales roles, as they are the ‘face’ of the business – balancing phone sales, in-store customer service, purchasing and store coordination.

With thousands of products on offer in our stores and online, our counter sales team members are adept at keeping up with ever-changing products and stock availability.

If you think you’ve got what it takes to join our counter sales team, we’d love to hear from you.
