2025: Year in Review
The past year has been one of growth and community engagement at Edcon Steel, marked by exciting new product offerings, inspiring customer projects, and opportunities to give back to the community.
As we look back on the year, we’re proud to share some of our favourite highlights from the past 12 months in our 2025 Year in Review.
New Product Offerings
Edcon Steel expanded its product range in 2025 to better serve builders, tradespeople, and DIY enthusiasts. We introduced new product lines that deliver greater convenience and value to our customers.
ICCONS® Fastening Solutions Now in Stock Image:
This year, Edcon partnered with ICCONS®, a proudly Australian-owned supplier of construction fastening systems, power tools, and accessories. We began stocking a range of ICCONS® products at our Brookvale store and have now rolled the ICCONS range to most of our locations, meaning customers can now source high-quality anchors, adhesives, screws, rivets, drills and more directly from Edcon. By teaming up with ICCONS®, we’re supporting an independent, Australian-owned business while bringing the latest technology in fasteners and fixings to our shelves.
Uni-Fit Modular Handrail Solutions
Another product highlight of 2025 was the launch of Uni-Fit Handrail products at Edcon Steel. We’re excited to offer products from this cutting-edge, fully modular handrail system so you can replace or build handrails without any welding or heavy fabrication. Designed with tradies and DIYers in mind, Uni-Fit’s innovative fittings and connectors make installations easy and safe. Each component is manufactured from heavy-duty steel and hot-dip galvanised, ensuring superior strength and durability for these safety-critical installations.
Whether you’re upgrading a home with accessible ramps or refitting a commercial stairway, the Uni-Fit system provides a compliant, long-lasting handrail solution that can be assembled with just basic tools. By adding Uni-Fit products to our range, Edcon Steel continues its mission to provide our customers with high quality options when designing and fitting handrail systems.
Incredible Customer Projects
One of the most rewarding parts of our year is seeing what our customers create with our steel and metal products. In 2025, we were amazed by the skill and creativity on display. Here are two standout customer projects that truly inspired us.
Brisket & Brawn: Smoked Perfection in Steel
Stef Pizzardi, founder of The Brisket & Brawn BBQ Co., turned his passion for barbecue into a thriving business, and Edcon Steel has been a trusted part of that journey. Stef relies on Edcon’s extensive range, from sheet and plate to pipe and C-channel, for building and modifying his smokers. Our Blacktown team (shout-out to Scott, Mark, and JR!) has become a go-to resource, offering solutions and sourcing alternatives when needed.
“They help me find what I need or a way around it if it’s not in stock,” Stef says.
Adam’s Rocketship Outdoor Heater
Adam, a boilermaker from Bathurst, set out to build an outdoor wood heater unlike any other: a rocketship-shaped heater to warm up chilly Central West nights. Using stainless steel sheet, rods and tube (plus a few repurposed beer kegs for the body), Adam won Edcon’s 2024 Project Competition for his design.
In building the heater, Adam sourced all his materials from our Edcon Steel Bathurst store, crediting the team for being “bloody terrific”. We were thrilled to see how Edcon’s products were used in the rocketship heater’s frame, legs, and even a custom butterfly valve for airflow control. Stories like Adam’s are exactly why we run our annual Project Competition: to celebrate the amazing things our customers achieve with steel, a bit of ingenuity, and a lot of hard work.
Stories from Our Community
Giving back to our community and industry is a core value at Edcon Steel. Throughout 2025, we’ve actively supported initiatives and groups that make a positive impact, from wildlife conservation to student engineering teams to local industry associations. Here are a few ways Edcon lent its steel and support to the community this year.
Saving Wombats with an Innovative Steel Burrow Flap
In regional NSW, a group of dedicated volunteers is fighting to save wombats from a deadly skin disease called mange. Ken, a Wollombi Valley Landcare volunteer, invented an innovative wombat burrow flap prototype to deliver medicine to wild wombats as they enter or exit their burrows, all without stressing the animals.
Edcon Steel provided the steel for the frames and cut it to length for Ken’s design. Thanks to this collaboration, the new steel-framed burrow flaps are sturdier and more effective than other flap designs, helping deliver life-saving treatment to wombats while minimising the environmental impact. We’re proud to have played a part in this grassroots conservation effort, which is a perfect example of steel being used to support sustainability and wildlife in our community.
UTS Motorsports: Fueling the Next Generation
At Edcon, we love supporting the next generation of engineers and innovators. In 2025, we continued our sponsorship of UTS Motorsports, a student team from the University of Technology Sydney that designs, builds, and races Formula SAE cars. This passionate team of 60+ students works year-round to create an electric race car (and an autonomous vehicle) to compete against other universities. Edcon Steel supplied all the steel tubing for their chassis fabrication this year, and we provided much of the aluminium used in last year’s car.
Here at Edcon Steel, we are proud to support this industrious and skilled group of students; their ingenuity and teamwork today promise a bright future for Australian engineering, and we’re honoured to play a small part in that journey.
Supporting Local Master Builders Associations
Edcon Steel’s community support extends to the building industry itself. We believe in strengthening the networks that support builders, contractors, and tradespeople. That’s why, in 2025, we maintained our sponsorship of two local chapters of the Master Builders Association (MBA) in Sydney.
Edcon Steel is a proud sponsor of the MBA’s Manly Warringah and Northern Suburbs divisions, actively supporting their members and advocacy efforts in the construction industry. These MBA chapters host regular meetings, information nights, and training events for local builders, which provide education on best practices, safety, and industry trends. Edcon’s involvement helps ensure these forums thrive, because when local builders succeed, our whole community benefits.
