Matt Mayall, Finance Manager and Director

Matt joined Edcon Steel in 2011, fresh out of high school, and has since experienced almost every side of the business. Starting as a storeman, he moved into counter sales before becoming one of Edcon’s youngest Branch Managers and leading the Brookvale store for close to a decade. Today, Matt is Edcon Steel’s Finance Manager and a Director.

Having worked his way from the warehouse to the leadership team, Matt brings a practical understanding of Edcon’s day-to-day operations and the people behind them. Despite the growth he has witnessed over the years, he believes Edcon’s approachable, family-business culture and commitment to treating every customer equally remain unchanged.

“It’s a big part of my life, Edcon. I really enjoy coming to work every day,” he says. 

“It’s such a great environment with great people, great customers and with new challenges every day.” 

When asked what he believes makes Edcon Steel different from other steel stores, Matt was clear: “At Edcon, no customer is more important than another customer”.

“We look after everyone equally and treat them the same, whether they want to spend a dollar or thousands of dollars. 

Sally Rust, Accounts Receivable

Sally has been with Edcon Steel for over a decade and is the heart and soul of our accounts department, managing hundreds of customer accounts while supporting Edcon stores across NSW. For Sally, accounts is about much more than chasing payments. 

“Customer service is the utmost in a business.,” Sally says. “You’ve got to look after your customers.”

That approach has helped Sally build genuine relationships with the accounts teams she deals with.  But it requires a balance of maintaining the friendly, personal service Edcon Steel is known for while keeping payments moving.

“I’ve built great relationships. I can have a joke with them and tell them that they’re out of terms and they better get their payments in,” she laughs.  

One of Sally’s proudest contributions has been helping modernise Edcon’s invoicing system, taking on the significant task of transitioning invoice management from a weekly print-and-post process to email, allowing invoices to reach customers faster and be sent every day or two. She’s also someone colleagues across Edcon can turn to when they need help with an account or payment. 

“I really like being able to help them, to go the extra step to try and sort it out if they’ve got little problems. And they appreciate it very much, and they do let me know.”

As she puts it, “Edcon is just a wonderful place to work and they’re a lovely bunch of people to work with.”
