Edcon Steel are the Structural Steel Specialists.
Over 30 Years Service to the Construction Industry
 |
Manly Oval Grandstand
  |
Edcon Steel Pty. Ltd. was contracted to Fabricate and erect the main canopy structural steel works for the refurbishment of Manly Oval in April 2001.
The Structure's main component was the complex rolled 350mm diameter pipe. The pipes were rolled in two planes and the shapes were neither circular nor a single ellipse. |
The rolling of the steel was achieved by cold rolling and not induction bending as this could only be done in one plane. In the
photo below we see the pipes in our factory being fabricated.
Due to the complex shape and the critical nature of the erection programme the whole canopy was trial assembled. The geometry of the shape was so complex that there were discrepancies of 30mm between the rollers computer model and the draftsmen's calculations. The only way to ensure fitment was
to assemble the canopy in a car park adjacent to our factory in Brookvale.
The Structural Steel was assembled (as seen below), checked and unbolted then welded, tested, galvanised and painted. Ready for erection.
The canopy was then pre assembled on the oval (picture opposite) and the purlins were
fitted. The following trades also had opportunity to complete some works while the canopy
was easily accessible. The lift was completed by a 300 tonne crane, the lift itself was 19 tonne with purlins. The lifting of the columns and canopy was all completed within a day. |
  |
The project was completed on time and on budget. Another successful project by Edcon Steel Pty. Ltd. your structural steel and erection experts.

Lippmann House,
Balmoral Beach
The Balmoral "Tree House" is Ed Lippmann's most important residential work to date. The 48 tonnes of structural steel has been described in Steel Profile (No. 65, Sept 1998), "The Steel work is impeccable". This project clearly defines
Edcon Steel's firm commitment to maintaining the form of structural steelwork in an architectural design. |
Centrepoint Tower - Signage
  |
Edcon Steel can reach almost anywhere, this job at Centre Point Tower was a more difficult site, all the steel was carried up in a goods lift. 200 trips! The structural Steel was used to support a temporary
video billboard for the 2000 Olympic Games. |
Officeworks Complex, Dee Why

 |
Edcon Steel commenced a small site welding job on the Bonds Building on Pittwater Rd, Dee
Why in March 1997. The relationship with the builders and Developers over this small job grew and resulted in Edcon Steel supplying over 120 tonnes of Structural Steel, industrial metalwork, façade retention, mechanical platforms, bollards and steelworks for the signage
seen in the photo opposite.
The project now stands as a landmark development on the Northern Beaches and returns the great building to its former glory. Edcon Steel was proud to have helped in the transformation. |
Port Botany (Big Space) Awning
  |
This job was a unique structure in Sydney at the time. The truss had a span of 60 metres and only weighed 8 tonnes, with the purlins and bridging. The DURAGAL SHS chords were prestressed and then
filled with non-shrink grout. The whole truss was assembled on the ground and lifted in a day.
Edcon Steel produced a structure that was certainly ahead of its time and now has the experience to reproduce this type of unique structure.

Randwick Stables (Stage 2 & 3)
  |
Edcon Steel has now completed two of the stables pictured opposite. The first housed 90 horses and the second 120 horses. Edcon Steel fabricated, galvanised, painted and erected all of the Structural Steel.
What makes these jobs especially challenging is the unique penning system to house the horses. The metal work involved in these projects represented 30% of the contract tonnage and displays Edcon Steel's ability for large and repetition projects. |
Moore Park Bus Shelter at the SCG
  |
The Moore Park Bus Stops are
known to most of the fans who attend the SCG. These Bus Shelters used 116 bevel cut rafters from 360UB56 to reduce the amount of fabrication and welding in fabricating T-sections. Delivering the client significant cost savings. |
The job is certainly striking but 29 tonnes of steel for a bus shelter certainly means Edcon Steel wish we could build one at every bus stop.
|
Royal North Shore Hospital (Poem Building)
The scale of this project although not large show Edcon Steel's flexibility and ability to work with a Builder (in this case Multiplex) to perform the job at hand in a programmed way.
This project was made up of six different projects from plant room roofs to helicopter catch nets to entrance awnings and ambulance bays.
Edcon delivered the project on budget and on time.
